What's Love Got To Do With It?

Fatty
I am daily conscious of how encouragement, support and just down right love are so important to our well being - to our state of mind- to our hearts. I think I used to be a lot meaner than I am now - I had a sarcastic sense of humor and a biting tongue.  I watched a documentary about Nora Ephron, "Everything is Copy" and was reminded of my old self - not that I have attained sainthood yet - but I definitely am more compassionate than I used to be.

I think part of my old smart-ass-ness had a lot to do with being young and attractive and the social status that afforded me -  but of course under all the confidence I exuded was an insecure woman.  So it is important for me to feel supported and not harshly judged when I go to exercise class.  I am happy to say that all of the staff and students at the Bar Method have been super supportive and I regularly hear the teachers praising the students during class - which really helps to keep me motivated to get to class (https://barmethod.com/locations/austin-downtown/)!

Today I found out that I won the first week Challenge Prize - and I was really touched - you see it has been a rough few days.  My cat 'Fatty' passed away on Saturday - she was 17 years old - and when I went to class my mind was a little foggy because I was thinking about the items for her grave that I planned on buying at HomeDepot after class.  Fatty was a big part of my emotional support system - I wonder how many times a day I petted her and kissed her - and baby talked to her?  Thank you Bar Method for being so encouraging and kind!

So, in the spirit of being humble and in sharing some important information with you - here is a really awful picture of my face about 10 days after I started applying Fluorouracil Cream every night before going to bed (https://patient.info/medicine/fluorouracil-for-sun-damaged-skin-efudix-actikerall).  The cream was prescribed by my dermatologist (Dr. Lindsey Detwiler - she is awesome!).  It started when I had a patch of skin on my arm that looked funny and she took a sample and it was pre-cancerous - now the medicine was not covered by my insurance company and it is expensive so she helped me find a company that would sell it to me for a more reasonable price.  All the red areas you see in the photo are places where I have cells that are sun damaged - so the cream will cause these places to blister up.  As you might have guessed - I had a lot of sun exposure from years past - for the last 30 years or more I have been very diligent about applying sunscreen!

Okay, now for laughs - here is a photo of me in a cat face mask that my daughter Jennifer gave me - pretty creepy but the mask did feel good! Haha!
